Thin Lizzy has officially announced the release of a new album, The Acoustic Sessions, marking their first studio album in over 40 years. Slated for a January 2025 release, the album brings a fresh acoustic take to some of the band’s classic tracks from their early days, notably featuring unreleased vocals from the late Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy’s legendary frontman, who passed away in 1986. This project combines newly recorded acoustic guitar parts by original guitarist Eric Bell with archival recordings from Lynott, blending past and present in a tribute to their original sound and spirit
The album revisits songs from Thin Lizzy’s first three albums—Thin Lizzy, Shades of a Blue Orphanage, and Vagabonds of the Western World—in a stripped-down, intimate style that fans have never heard before. Tracks like “Whiskey in the Jar” and “Eire” showcase a unique mix of the familiar with the newly crafted guitar accompaniments by Bell, who last played with the band in the early '70s. Producer Richard Whittaker played a pivotal role in this project, curating original Decca recordings and re-envisioning them with modern acoustic elements
In addition to classic Thin Lizzy material, the album includes a special bonus track, “Slow Blues G.M.,” dedicated to former band guitarist Gary Moore. This collection is set to captivate longtime Thin Lizzy fans with its rich historical connections and innovative reimagining of beloved songs, offering a nostalgic yet fresh experience for a new generation of listeners.
